ISA is what your modem is.. (8-bit isa anyways).. 16 bit has a little addition to the slot.
VLB is a 16-bit ISA + a brown thingy on the end.
PCI is a white slot..
you can't go 100% PCI..
the only way you can run your VLB card with a PCI motherboard is if you pick up an ASUS PCI motherboard.. (unfortunatly, they no longer make 486 boards).. *BUT* you won't need it. 80%+ of PCI motherboards have an integrated 32bit IDE controller...
